Couples are loving the first look and if you’re still on the fence, then picture this: the bride gently taps the groom on the shoulder. He turns, sees her for the first time in her dress—and time stands still. There are tears, laughter, tight embraces, and an overwhelming feeling of this is really happening. That’s the magic of a first look—a private, emotional moment between the couple before the ceremony begins.

A first look is when the bride and groom (or any marrying couple) see each other before the ceremony in a planned, photo-worthy setting. It breaks with the old tradition of waiting until the aisle moment—but for many, it makes the day more relaxed and intimate. Here are few reasons why couples are choosing first looks:

  1. A Moment Just for You

The wedding day goes fast. A first look gives you a rare moment alone (well, almost alone—your photographer will be nearby) to soak it all in together without hundreds of eyes watching.

  1. Better Photos (and More of Them)

With a first look, you can get most of your formal portraits done early—before the ceremony. That means more natural light, no rushing during cocktail hour, and more time to enjoy your guests.

  1. Nerves? Consider Them Calmed.

Seeing your partner beforehand can ease pre-ceremony jitters. It shifts your focus from stress to connection.

  1. More Time to Celebrate

Doing a first look frees up your schedule. Instead of disappearing for an hour after the ceremony, you can go straight to the fun (hello, signature cocktails and dancing).

  1. Afraid It’s Going To Ruin the Aisle Moment?

Don’t be. In fact, many couples say having a first look actually makes walking down the aisle more meaningful, not less. It takes away the nerves and replaces them with excitement. Plus, that aisle moment is different—more ceremonial, public, and charged with energy.

So, Is It Right for You?

A first look isn’t for everyone. If you're a traditionalist or love the suspense of that aisle reveal, skipping it might feel more authentic. But if you value a private moment, more photo time, and a smoother schedule—it might just be one of the best decisions you make.
